Got my new material for my niece

Published by trilla at 4:30 pm under Sewing Edit This

So this morning I dragged my husband and daughter to Joanns with me to look for fabric. My husband had to do a volunteer thing for his Wing in the Air Force last night and was given today off as a reward. Unfortunately for him I had already been planning on going to the fabric store today. I would have bought this stuff on Wednesday when I was there buying ribbon for the baby blanket but I was waiting until today so I could use my 20% off coupons. So here are the new materials I bought.

I’m planning on making this with the pink dotted material T-shirt dress

And this with the butterfly material Onesie Dress

I’m also going to make a tee-dress shirt for my daughter and another onesie shirt for my niece with  some material she had me buy for her in January. It was a remnant and I didn’t realize it had flaws on it until I got home and put it in the wash. Whoever wrote ‘damaged’ on the sale slip had illegible hand-writting. And having pretty bad hand-writting myself and therefore being able to decifer most bad hand-writting that’s really saying something about HOW bad that persons hand-writting is. hehe But I think a matching cousin outfit for the two girls will look so cute.

And I thought it would be way too cute to make a matching bucket hat for the niece with this pattern.   Bucket Hat.

It’s reversible. So my plan is to make the two dresses and then make the hat so that one side matches each dress. Then I’m going to make a pair of baby booties to go with the dresses using this pattern and this material. Monkey booties

It will match both dresses. I thought about making two separate booties, one for each dress, but then decided to make just one that could go with either dress and any appropriately pink outfit they decide to dress her in. Here is the felt that will be lining the booties.

And because I can’t stand to see a plain white shirt with that cute material I’ll be putting this applique on the ballet slipper shirts.

Spring Tea Time Applique

I’ll be using the butterfly. I haven’t decided on an applique for the other two or I might just use my fabric paint and stencils. It’s still up in the air.

So I finished the ribbon edged baby blanket the other night and I’m glad that’s over. It was more of a pain than I thought it would be. By the time I finished pinning the ribbon to the edge of the first side of the blanket I was more than happy to stop to put my daughter to bed for the night. My back needed a break. Then I had to baste it in place and start pinning the second piece on top. Oi. By the time I was completely finished it was 11:30 and I was beat but I felt I needed a bath to soak my back. lol I’m only 24 and complaining about my back. hehe And of course something went screwy with the blanket as I was sewing the two pieces together so the bottom side ended up with a few tiny pleats that were not supposed to be there but c’est la vie. It’s still pretty darn cute and not bad for a first attempt.

My husband told me the other night ‘Oh yeah, I forgot you can make blankets and things.’ This was said in reference to the fact that one of the men in his shop and his wife just had a baby. The people in the shop all chip in and get some flowers (which is what we were given) or a couple of baby items. Apparently the thought never entered his mind that I could have made something for the baby. I can only hope no one else gets pregnant any time soon or I have a feeling I’ll be pressed into service. It makes sense though after all…something hand made with care is a little more personal. But I don’t know any of the wives of the men in his shop and barely know the men so, where exactly is the care coming from? lol
