Blue Fairy and other projects
My dd decided that she wanted to be the ‘Blue Fairy’ from the Simplicity Toddler Tinkerbell Pattern so I set out to make her a Silvermist costume. I had no intention of using satin for my 2 year old so I allowed her to pick out her material and she picked out this lovely cotton blue ladybug print. Sewing with Organza and Tulle can be a little frustrating. Lining them up correctly is not always easy. I found that I just got them as close as I could and went with it. There is so much tulle that even if they are a little off you really can’t tell.

I chose to leave the belt off. I just don’t think it’s needed. The costume is pretty as it is. I chose to ignore the pattern and made the wings with wire hangers and nylons. I shaped the wings, stretched the nylon over them and then proceeded to spray paint the wings. On the outer edge I used dark blue spray paint and the inside was a lighter blue fabric spray paint. I recommend using the fabric paint. The regular spray paint did drip down a little bit. The fabric paint did not. After everything was dry I sewed the beads down. I’m very happy with how they came out. I don’t like the elastic after all so I will be taking that off and going with the pattern suggestion of using velcro to attach the wings to the back of the dress.

I also made some fabric covered button hair ties to match. I can’t fit a lady bug on these size buttons so I cut a flower from the scraps for these buttons.

I agreed to make a bunch of chemo caps for charity and decided to make some fleece. Not only were these very easy but they were a great way to use up some of my fleece scraps. I used this tutorial. Tutorial. These are actually kind of big but I think they’re still great. I like them loose.

My dd has recently fallen very much in love with Blue’s Clues. So I decided to make her a draw string bag and put Blue and Tickity on it using my Print N Press paper. You just find a picture, print it on the paper, cut the picture out, iron it on your material and you are done!
